Causes of Material Failure

Material failure occurs when the material inflicted during a process loses its properties or function which allows it to perform its original purpose. The failure of a material can stem from a variety of reasons, some of which are as follows:

  • Improper Design and Selection of Materials: A design that doesn't take into consideration the materials being used and how stress could affect the item has a higher chance of being misplaced as a result of overestimating the limit of the material.
  • Material Preparation and Processing Problems: If the temperature, time, pressure and other factors are not well controlled during the preparation and processing, it may lead to defects in the material.
  • Material Usage Environment Problems: If the material receives excessive or inappropriate stress effects (including temperature, humidity, oxidation, etc.) in the usage environment, it may lead to failure of the material.
  • Material Aging and Deterioration Problems: Over time, due to chemical reactions, light, oxidation, etc., the performance of the material will gradually deteriorate, and it may lead to material failure.

Environmental Substance Analysis
