- Biocompatibility Testing
Due to the rapid increase in the use of biological entities in the medical, biotechnological, pharmaceutical, and other disciplines, there has been an increased focus on biomaterials compatibility. To make sure the biomaterials can be safely and effectively used, testing for compatibility becomes an important step.
CD BioSciences-Advanced Materials is the industry's leader in advanced material products and services, and it specializes in biocompatibility testing services. Our goal is to safeguard materials used in biomedical applications and assist customers in satisfying worldwide biocompatibility norms and regulations during the design and construction phases of their projects.
The term biocompatibility refers to the extent of the acceptability of a biomaterial within the human biological environment or its ability to contact human tissue in a manner that does not evoke any adverse reaction or result in the destruction of human tissue. The aim of biomaterials compatibility testing is to investigate the degree of integration or acceptance of materials into the biological environment to predict their possible biological response in the human body, and their effect on living organisms. Compatibility testing reduces the risks and assures the effective and safe utilization of biomaterials.
Cytotoxicity Testing
Cytotoxicity is evaluated when a biomaterial is placed in a cell culture system and these cells' responses towards the material are assessed. Implantable material cytotoxicity can be determined using probes of common techniques such as cell proliferation assay, cell morphology characterization, and apoptotic assay.
Allergenicity Testing
By testing whether the biological material causes allergic reactions, we can assess the sensitization of the material. Common sensitization tests include skin irritation test, skin sensitization test, oral irritation test, rectal irritation test, and eye irritation test.
Implantation Testing
We can observe the response of the materials to animal tissues and evaluate the biocompatibility of the materials implanting biomaterials into animals. Implantation tests are usually categorized into subcutaneous implantation, muscle implantation, and bone implantation.
Blood Compatibility Testing
Through testing the interaction of the biomaterial with blood, we can evaluate the blood compatibility of the material. Common blood compatibility tests include coagulation test, hemolysis test, and platelet activation test.
We have a specialized biocompatibility testing platform designed to provide comprehensive support for the safety assessment of medical devices and biomaterials. This platform is also equipped for systematic research on genetically modified animals, providing technical and facility support for research on novel biomaterials.
