Anaerobic Digestion Full-Chain SolutionsThe food industry faces pressure to reduce its environmental footprint, with organic waste treatment a key challenge. CD BioSustainable provides full-chain anaerobic digestion (AD) solutions, converting food waste into biogas and nutrient-rich digestate. Our services cover feasibility, design, construction, commissioning, and post-operation management for seamless integration into food manufacturing plants, minimizing disruption and maximizing resource recovery.
Fig 1. Anaerobic digestion from cheese whey (Venkateswar M.O., 2022) Anaerobic digestion is an example of natural biological activity. It is the breakdown of organic material by microorganisms without the presence of oxygen. This process undergoes various stages including hydrolysis, acidogenesis, acetogenesis, and methanogenesis. Biogas, which is mainly composed of methane and carbon dioxide, as well as nutrient-rich digestate, are byproducts of this process. In the case of our systems, these biochemical reactions are performed in a manner that maximizes efficiency and biogas yield.

| Category | Description |
| Wet anaerobic digestion system | Designed for low solids pumpable food wastes like processing effluents and sludges, these systems use continuously stirred tank reactors (CSTRs). |
| Dry Anaerobic Digestion Systems | Designed for high solids (over 20%) feedstocks such as stackable food waste including fruits, vegetables, and packaged food waste requiring pre-treatment, these systems typically utilize tunnel reactors or high-solids plug-flow systems. |
| Multi-Stage Fermentation Processes | This method separates the biochemical stages of AD (e.g., hydrolysis/acidogenesis and methanogenesis) into distinct reactors, allowing parameter optimization for different microbial groups, which can result in higher biogas production, better system stability, shorter processing times for complex feedstocks, and improved overall biogas yield. |
| Biochar Enhancement Systems | The addition of biochar into AD systems provides surfaces for microbial colonization, adsorption of inhibitory compounds, increased buffering capacity, and potential improvements in methane yield and process stability. Biochar addition steps can be tailored to specific systems and feedstocks. |
