Bio-Conversion Value-Added Solutions

Bio-Conversion Value-Added Solutions

Landfilling causes GHG emissions, soil contamination, and resource loss. CD BioSustainable provides bio-conversion solutions to transform food waste into high-value products, including insect protein, lipids, and soil enhancers. Offerings include insect protein production facilities, mobile processing modules, and oleaginous yeast co-treatment systems.

Technical Principles

Controlled biological processes serve as one of the cornerstones of our company's approach. The following technologies are fundamental to our business:

  • Insect Bioconversion: The Bioconversion section focuses on species like the Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens), which has larvae that consume organic waste voraciously. The converted larvae are highly nutritious proteins and fats and can be used as animal feed, in aquaculture, or in pet food. During the rest of their lifecycle, they produce frass, which is a valuable organic fertilizer.
  • OLE Co-Treatment: This system uses some specifically tailored yeast strains capable of lipid (oil) accumulation during their cultivation on organic substrates from food waste. Insect farming residues can also be integrated to synergistically boost the overall efficiency and product diversity by treating the waste before or after insect farming to convert it to microbial oils for biofuel or oleochemical production.

Technical Features

  • Intensified Biological Treatment: Fast and volumetric waste reduction as well as high conversion rates to added-value products such as proteins, lipids, and fertilizers.
  • Sustainability: Cutting down on traditional waste treatment methods reduces the carbon footprint. At the same time, utilizing these products decreases reliance on traditional sources of protein and synthetic fertilizers.
  • Modularity: Systems designed with modules can be adjusted according to the amount of waste available.
  • Demanded Output Quality Rating: Required parameters like temperature, humidity, and quality of feedstock are critical for consistent quality and yield, allowing their optimization between batches.
  • Flexibility: Can process various types of non-hazardous food waste.

Technical Classification

  • Insect-Based Bioconversion: Insect bio-farming for protein and frass production on a wide scale, within a controlled environment.
  • Microbial Fermentation (Oleaginous Yeast): Cultivation of yeast for lipid biosynthesis and for the purification of waste streams.
  • Decentralized Mobile Processing Units: Skid- or container-mounted units that process waste on location or close to the location, thus minimizing transportation costs and logistical issues.

Environmental Benefits

  • Landfill Diversion: Substantially reduces the amount of organic waste sent to landfills.
  • Greenhouse Gas Reduction: Mitigates methane emissions from anaerobic decomposition in landfills.
  • Resource Circularity: Recovers valuable nutrients and creates sustainable products from waste.
  • Reduced Carbon Footprint: Offers a lower-impact alternative to traditional protein production and waste disposal.
  • Soil Health Improvement: Insect frass acts as a natural soil conditioner and fertilizer.
