Waste Oil Recycling

Waste Oil Recycling

The global food processing industry generates large volumes of waste oils and greases, whose improper disposal causes water/soil pollution and GHG emissions. CD BioSustainable uses advanced biotechnology and chemical engineering to recycle waste fats, oils, and greases into biofuels, bio-lubricants, and oleochemicals. Our services ensure regulatory compliance while delivering cost savings and economic returns through waste valorization.

Technical Principles

The pivotal technique that we use is based on the most modern catalytic conversion along with enzymatic refinement accumulative methods. Some important principles adopted are:

  • Transesterification: This is the transformation of waste oils triglycerides to biodiesel and glycerol through reaction with alcohol (methanol) in controllable reaction conditions.
  • Hydrotreatment - industrial applications: removing impurities such as free fatty acids and moisture to produce high-purity hydrocarbons.
  • Enzymatic Hydrolysis - cosmetics and pharmaceuticals: Using lipases to hydrolyze complex lipids into fatty acids and glycerol which are precursors of cosmetics and pharmaceuticals.
  • Thermal Cracking - fuels: Long chain hydrocarbons are reduced into shorter chained hydrocarbons by high temperatures and low oxidizing environments.

These processes are tailored to withstand the broad range of feedstock qualities that are characteristic of food industry waste.

Technology Features

  • High Conversion Efficiency: >95% yield on biodiesel production and oleochemical concentration >90%,
  • Closed-loop system: Integrated recovery modules mitigate water/energy consumption.
  • Feedstock Flexibility: Various FOGs including residues of palm oil, animal fats and fried oils.
  • Low carbon footprint: Energy recovery systems yield net CO2 emissions lowered by 40% compared to traditional approaches.
  • Modular design: Scalable infrastructure allows featuring facilities of any footprint.

Technical Categories

  • Primary processing - Filtration, degumming, and acid extraction for stabilization of the raw waste oils.
  • Secondary conversion - Enabling core catalytic/enzymatic processes to form intermediate products.
  • Tertiary refinement - Bleaching, deodorization, and distillation, above specified end-users criteria such as biodiesel D6751.

Application Areas

Repurposed products are applicable in a range of industries:

  • Energy: Diesel (B100/B20 blends), bio-diesel, and solid biofuels.
  • Biolubricants, surfactants and plasticizers for Renewable Manufacturing.
  • Organic Feed additives and fertilizers for Agriculture.
  • Emollients for Gowers: glycerinalkyl fatty alcohol.
  • Pharmaceuticals: Coatings for capsules and USP-grade glycerol.

Environmental Benefits

  • Pollution Prevention: Diverts a ton of waste oil from landfills, averting the emission of 3.5 tons of CO2-equivalent pollutants.
  • Resource Conservation: A reprocessed liter avoids the use of 5,000 liters of freshwater for oil production.
  • Biodiversity Protection: Prevents potential oil spillage that may cause eutrophication of water ecosystems.
  • Circular Economy: A combined 92% recovery of energy is achieved through utilization of byproducts, such as biogas from sludge.

Our Services

We provide full-cycle solutions:

  • On-Site Collection: Certified containers are used by licensed logistical FOGs transporters.
  • Analytical Testing: FTIR, GC-MS, and titrative analytical methods to determine the quality of the feedstock and its compatibility with the processes.
  • Custom Tailored Processing: Specialized batch or continuous systems are designed for client volumes ranging from 50 tons to 5,000 tons a month.
  • Specialized products development: Bio-solvents and other specialty bio-based chemicals are manufactured with intelligence from clients' wastes.
  • Data Reporting: Monitoring for accountability with features for traceability through IoT devices for ESG reporting.
