Food Allergen Testing

Food Allergen Testing

Approximately 3–10% of the global population suffers from food allergies, which can be severe or life-threatening. CD BioSustainable detects allergens in finished foods, including 14 common allergenic substances such as milk, eggs, peanuts, soybeans, and gluten. Our services help manufacturers, retailers, and government agencies verify product labels, prevent cross-contamination, and ensure compliance with food safety regulations.

Technical Principles

The testing employs a multi-platform approach:

  • Immunoassays (ELISA): A method for sensitive detection of gluten or casein proteins that utilizes antigen-antibody for reactions.
  • Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR): Used for allergen screening from nuts or sea food to amplify DNA fragments of particular species.
  • Mass Spectrometry (MS): Analyzes proteins in other complex matrices to identify and quantify proteins such as mustard or lupin.
  • Each method is validated under international standard to ensure reproducibility when analyzing foods of different matrices.

Technical Features

  • Ultra sensitivity: Detection levels finer than 1 ppm, exceeding Codex Alimentarius's standards.
  • High Throughput: Automated platforms facilitate the analysis of over 200 samples per day and more.
  • Matrix Tolerance: Usable procedures for difficult matrices, including heat-treated foods and fermented foods.
  • Eco-Conscious Workflows: Minimization of chemicals and solventless extraction processes foster green chemistry.

Application Areas

  • Dairy alternatives: Absence of milk proteins in soy and other plant-based products.
  • Baked goods: Quantitation of gluten in products for “free-from” labled foods.
  • Infant formula: Residual soy or egg in hypoallergenic infant formulas.
  • Seasonings: Undeclared ingredients derived from shellfish.

Our Services

We provide comprehensive food allergen testing, as described below:

  • Screening Tests: Simple and quick lateral flow assays for rapid preliminary screening (15-minute test).
  • Confirmatory Analysis: LC-MS/MS for identification and quantification of targets or real-time PCR.
  • Allergen Mapping: Swabbing of areas within the facility to identify sources of potential cross-contamination of the production lines.

Company Service Advantages

  • Speed: 24-hour emergency testing in case of urgent recalls.
  • Customization: Allergen panels tailored to regional markets (for example, Japan's buckwheat requirement)
  • Transparency: Access to raw data, interpretive reports, and insights.
  • Sustainability Metrics: Testing processes certification as carbon neutral.
