Description Metarhizium anisopliae, or green muscardine fungi, is a beneficial fungus that effectively controls a wide range of insects, including sucking insects, beetles, and caterpillars. It is a successful and durable biological control agent. The spores attach to an insect's cuticle, penetrate, and consume it. Metarhizium anisopliae spores can persist in soil, organic matter, and debris, leading to secondary infections in other insects.

Metarhizium anisopliae infects arthropods by first adhering to and penetrating their exoskeleton using germ tubes and appressoria. The fungus then releases hydrolytic enzymes to breach the integument and enter the hemocoel. Inside, it produces blastospores that deplete nutrients and release toxic compounds, leading to the insect's death. After death, the fungus grows conidiophores and produces conidia, which spread to new hosts. Infected insects show yellow-brown spots, neurological disorders, and eventually die, with their bodies covered in white hyphae and green conidia.
Foliar Application: Dissolve 20 grams in 1 liter of water. Spray on both sides of the leaves.
Soil Drenching: Dissolve 20 grams in 1 liter of water. Apply to the base of each plant.
Soil Application: Mix 2 kg with 20 kg of dried, powdered farmyard manure. Broadcast over one acre of the main field just before transplanting.
